Common Myths About Nutrition

1. Carbohydrates are bad. In fact, carbs are broken down into a specific type of energy, which is the universal energy source for the body. Without carbs, you'll find your energy lacking for optimal athletic performance.

2. Fat is bad. Certain types of fat, Omega3 and Omega6 fatty acids, contribute to nervous and circulatory system health. These fats can be found in fish and nuts.

3. Sports drinks are best for rehydration. Actually, typical grocery store and vending machine bought sports drinks contain too much sugar, which can have a negative effect on athletic performance. The best way to rehydrate is to dilute the sports drink with equal amounts of water.

4. Aspartame is a healthy substitute for sugar. Watch out for this artificial sweetener. Studies have show that there is a link between regular consumption of aspartame (i.e. Diet Coke) and the growth of brain tumors.

5. Eating three square meals a day is best. Five to six smaller meals throughout the day is better. This will provide a greater metabolic rate than three large meals and will in turn burn more calories throughout the day.
